Västmanlandsmusiken works to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or location, has access to a rich cultural life. Västmanlandsmusiken is a municipal association. The business is conducted on behalf of the owners, Västerås Stad (90%) and Region Västmanland (10%). We provide financial and practical support for music and dance events to be held in Västmanland every year, around the county and in Västerås Concert Hall. Our task is to provide Västerås Concert Hall with almost 200 events per year, some of which are concerts with our own house orchestra: Västerås Sinfonietta.
Västerås Sinfonietta is part of Västmanlandsmusiken and has been in tune with its audience since 1883. Västerås Concert Hall is the orchestra’s home arena and here we play for our audience in subscription series, christmas concerts, lunch concerts and more. In addition we have a large selection of events for children and young people and also give concerts in Västerås districts and in the county. Västerås Sinfonietta is – among many things – proud winner of the 2017 Grammis award in the category “Classic of the Year”. As a member of the Västerås Sinfonietta, you become part of an orchestral tradition in strong musical development and get to work with a wonderful group of 33 musicians.
The audition will take place following personal invitation on May 29th 2026 at Västerås Concert Hall / Västerås Konserthus, Lilla salen. Orchestra tuning, A=442.
Compulsory works:
• Dittersdorf: Concerto no 2, 1st movement with the Gruber cadenza, and 2nd movement without cadenza.
• Bottesini: Concerto no 2, 1st movement with cadenza.
Orchestral excerpts and ensemble round will be available below from April 15th 2026.
Please note: A new Swedish law requires either a Swedish work permit or citizenship of a country within the European Union for eligibility for employment in Sweden. We are therefore unable to accept applicants from outside of the European Union since the part-time salary we offer does not qualify applicants for a work permit.
