Husband and wife duo April Verch & Cody Walters is a true partnership of two world-class musicians. Combining their unique backgrounds from Verch’s native Ottawa Valley (Canada) and Walters’ heartland roots in Kansas (USA), their music transitions effortlessly from step dancing and fiddle tunes, to old-time fiddle-banjo duets, to innovative sandpaper foot percussion contrasted against tight-knit vocal harmonies. Together they have traveled to four continents, performed in fourteen countries, and won numerous awards. Verch and Walters are passionate about sharing their love and reverence for the music and traditions that have been passed down to them with young people. Students are encouraged to contribute thoughts and ask questions, as well as participate in creating rhythms with their hands and feet to the music. The duo takes time to explain the history and geography associated with the styles they play, tell stories about the musicians they learned from, and emphasizes the importance of the community that is created through music.
